An investigation is underway in Easley, South Carolina after a police officer was killed on train tracks while responding to a call for assistance. The officer, identified as 22-year-old Matthew Hare, was trying to rescue a suicidal person off the tracks when he was struck by an oncoming train. Multiple law enforcement agencies held a processional to pay their respects to the fallen officer. The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division is continuing the investigation. An investigation is currently underway in South Carolina following the tragic death of a police officer on train tracks while responding to a call for assistance. The Easley Police Department received a request for help on the railroad tracks along East Main Street early Wednesday morning. In response, the police contacted North Norfolk Southern to halt all train activity in the vicinity. Unfortunately, one officer from the Easley PD, identified as 22-year-old Matthew Hare, lost his life on the tracks. The Pickens County Coroner’s Office has reported that Officer Hare was attempting to remove a suicidal individual from the tracks when he was struck by an oncoming train. The officer was pronounced dead at the scene. In honor of the fallen officer, multiple law enforcement agencies held a processional in the afternoon as a gesture of respect. The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division has been enlisted to further investigate the incident.
