A man from the local area was arrested on a murder charge in connection with the shooting death of his 6-year-old daughter. According to an affidavit, he claimed it was an accident on the night of her death. The man, Jordan Thomas Chadick, was taken into custody during a traffic stop and booked into the Garland County Detention Center. He is being held without bond and is set to appear in court. A special prosecutor has been appointed to handle the case after the local prosecuting attorney’s office recused themselves. The affidavit states that the man committed first-degree murder because the victim was under 14 years old. Police responded to the scene after receiving multiple calls about a shooting. The first deputy to arrive found the apartment door partially open and a woman on the porch requesting an ambulance. Inside, they found the man and woman, identified as Jordan and Melissa Chadick, and the girl covered in blood. The man made statements suggesting he had no knowledge of what happened. Bodycam footage showed blood stains on his feet and legs. Investigators obtained a search warrant and found a pistol at the scene. The man’s wife told investigators that their marriage was volatile due to his substance abuse, and he became more violent as he drank more alcohol. She said they had argued about their daughters’ use of social media and electronic devices. She recalled several instances during their marriage when he threatened her with a gun. The man gave conflicting accounts of what happened, and his recollection did not match the autopsy report, which ruled the death a homicide. The man also made multiple phone calls after the shooting that were not to emergency personnel. A witness heard the man tell his wife to get their stories straight, and another witness noted the man’s alcohol smell and questioned how the gun could have gone off without his knowledge..
