A man from Merced County has been arrested for breaking into a Lake Tahoe resort and fondling women’s feet. The suspect, identified as Mark Anthony Gonzales, entered two resort condominiums and rubbed the feet of two separate women while they were sleeping. The victims confronted him and he fled. Gonzales was known to local law enforcement for previous crimes, including theft of women’s shoes and trespassing. His sexually-motivated crimes were escalating in nature. A man from Merced County, identified as Mark Anthony Gonzales, has been apprehended by authorities after allegedly breaking into a Lake Tahoe resort and engaging in inappropriate behavior involving women’s feet. The incidents occurred during the early morning hours between July 1-3, 2023, when many tourists were visiting the area for the Fourth of July holiday. Gonzales reportedly entered two resort condominiums by opening unlocked screen doors and proceeded to rub the feet of two separate adult females while they were sleeping. The victims woke up to the disturbing discovery and confronted the suspect, who then fled the scene. Investigations revealed that Gonzales was already known to local law enforcement in Merced County, where he had been involved in various criminal activities, including theft of women’s shoes, trespassing, and engaging in sexual self-gratification during some incidents. The sexually-motivated nature of Gonzales’ crimes was found to be escalating. On Monday, sheriff’s detectives located and arrested Gonzales at his residence. He has been booked into the Merced County Jail on charges of burglary and battery. Gonzales will remain in custody, with a bail of $50,000, until he is extradited back to Douglas County, Nevada.
