Two Seriously Injured in Small Plane Crash in Washington County

Aug. 1—SANDERSVILLE, Ga. — Authorities reported that two individuals sustained serious injuries when a small plane crashed in Washington County on Tuesday morning.

The incident occurred at approximately 9:30 a.m. near Kaolin Road, as confirmed by Washington County Sheriff Joel Cochran.

Upon receiving a 911 call regarding the plane crash, deputies from the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, along with firefighters and first responders from neighboring fire departments, swiftly arrived at the scene, supported by the county’s emergency medical services.

After an extensive search, the wreckage was discovered in a marshy area roughly half a mile away from the road.

“Emergency personnel successfully located the two individuals and promptly transferred them to the emergency medical service teams,” Cochran stated.

The pilot, identified as Daniel Mesnard, 67, from Florida, and the passenger, Timothy Fisher, 69, from Ohio, were both airlifted by medical helicopters to separate trauma centers for immediate treatment. The specific medical facilities remain undisclosed.

The cause of the plane crash is currently under investigation.

In a social media post, Cochran expressed his gratitude towards the dedicated men and women in public safety who promptly responded to the incident, emphasizing the collaborative effort of the Washington County team in assisting those in need. He commended their selflessness and commitment to serving others.
