Two teenage girls from Largy College in Ireland, Dalava Mohammed, 16, and Kiea McCann, 17, lost their lives on Monday (31 July) when their car crashed into a tree while they were traveling to a Debs ball prom just outside Clones. The incident has left the local community and families completely devastated, with tributes pouring in for the two young girls.

Kiea’s father, Frankie, spoke of the excitement and anticipation the girls had before the event. He described it as a night of celebration that quickly turned into a nightmare. Kiea is remembered as a beautiful girl inside and out, with an infectious smile, while Dalava is described as a cherished and much-loved daughter.

The fatal crash occurred on the N54 between Clones and Smithborough. An 18-year-old man who was also in the car suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

Principal Sharon Magennis of Largy College expressed her grief over the loss of Dalava, who had just completed her Junior Certificate, and Kiea, who had finished the Leaving Certificate Applied program. Both girls were integral members of the school community, and their absence will be deeply felt.

The local community has shown their support for the families by gathering in large numbers on Monaghan Street and at the town square, The Diamond. Social Protection Minister Heather Humphreys expressed her condolences, calling the incident an unimaginable tragedy.
