An investigation is underway after a police officer in South Carolina was killed on train tracks while responding to a call for assistance. The officer, identified as 22-year-old Matthew Hare, was trying to help a suicidal person off the tracks when he was struck by an oncoming train. An investigation is currently underway in South Carolina following the tragic death of a police officer on train tracks while responding to a call for assistance. The Easley Police Department received a request for help on the railroad tracks along East Main Street early Wednesday morning. In response, the police contacted North Norfolk Southern to halt all train operations in the vicinity. Regrettably, one officer from the Easley PD, identified as 22-year-old Matthew Hare, lost his life on the tracks. The Pickens County Coroner’s Office reported that Officer Hare was attempting to rescue a suicidal individual from the path of an approaching train when he was struck. He was pronounced dead at the scene. A solemn procession was held by various law enforcement agencies later that afternoon to honor the fallen officer. The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division has been called in to continue the investigation.
