Body of Naked Man Found in Barrel Identified as Javonnta Murphy

The body of a 32-year-old man found stuffed in a barrel along Malibu beach has been identified as Javonnta Murphy. Sanitation workers initially spotted the 55-gallon drum floating in the water along the Pacific Coast Highway bridge on July 30. However, it was not until the following morning when lifeguards retrieved the barrel that they discovered Murphy’s lifeless body inside.

The family of singer-songwriter Murphy, who hailed from Los Angeles, expressed their grief and shock on social media, while also pleading for answers regarding his untimely demise. Murphy’s cousin wrote on Facebook, “I’m hurt been up all night, how could somebody do this y’all?”

Authorities believe that the high tide may have carried the barrel into the Malibu lagoon from the ocean. Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department homicide detectives are currently investigating Murphy’s death. The circumstances surrounding his demise, the duration his body was inside the barrel, and its origin remain unclear.

Murphy’s cousin, who has already lost three other cousins in the past three years, struggled to come to terms with his death. Another relative shared their pain, expressing, “Awh son, I’m hurt. I love you Javonnta Murphy.”

Former Mayor Jefferson Wagner, shocked by the incident, stated that bodies in a barrel were not something typical for Malibu, a city known for its celebrity residents and beaches. The discovery has left locals deeply disturbed and saddened.
