Kevin Andrew Wheatley of Brantley County has been arrested and charged with the murder of a Hortense woman. The Brantley County Sheriff’s deputies received a call for a welfare check on a female and found a deceased woman who had been shot. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation was called in to assist and Wheatley was arrested the following day. Wheatley is facing charges of felony murder, aggravated assault, and other offenses. Man Arrested and Charged with Murder of Hortense Woman

Brantley County Sheriff’s deputies have apprehended Kevin Andrew Wheatley of Brantley County, who has been charged with the murder of a Hortense woman. The arrest was made late last month and follows an investigation into the tragic incident.

Investigation Details

The incident came to light on July 18 when Brantley County Sheriff’s deputies received a welfare check call regarding a female resident of a property on Willies Lane in the Popwellville community. Upon arrival, deputies discovered the lifeless body of a woman in the yard, with evidence suggesting that she had been shot. To aid in the investigation, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) was called in for assistance.

Identified as Finesta Veal, 62, the victim’s case was assigned to Stacy Carson, special agent in charge of the GBI’s Kingsland office. GBI documents reveal that Wheatley became the prime suspect, leading to his arrest on July 20 without any resistance.

Charges Brought Against Wheatley

Kevin Wheatley, 41, also from Hortense, has been remanded in custody at the Brantley County Detention Center. He faces multiple charges, including felony murder, aggravated assault, possession of a firearm or knife during the commission of certain felonies, elderly or disabled adult abuse, and tampering with evidence, a misdemeanor offense.

Further information regarding the case has not been released by the GBI or the Brantley County Sheriff’s Office at this time.
