Body Found in Drum on Malibu Beach Identified as 32-Year-Old Man
The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s office has identified the victim whose body was discovered inside a 55-gallon drum on a beach in Malibu. The victim has been identified as Javonnta Murphy, a 32-year-old man.

The discovery was made on Wednesday when a lifeguard spotted the drum in the ocean and brought it to shore. Upon opening the drum, the lifeguard found the body inside. Authorities were alerted and arrived at the scene, which was located in the 23200 block of Pacific Coast Highway, on Monday morning at around 10:30 a.m. The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department is currently investigating the incident.
Prior to this discovery, sanitation workers had reported seeing the same barrel in the water at Malibu Lagoon State Beach on Sunday night. However, they were unable to retrieve it at that time.
