The Minnesota Department of Public Safety (DPS) is set to release body camera and squad car video footage of the incident that led to the death of Ricky Cobb II on the shoulder of I-94 in Minneapolis. DPS Commissioner Bob Jacobson and State Patrol Chief Col. Matt Langer will release the video at 2:30 p.m. today. KARE 11 will be streaming the press conference live on their website, YouTube page, and other social media platforms.

The Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed that Cobb died from multiple gunshot wounds during the roadside incident, which occurred just after 2:30 a.m. near 42nd Ave. N. in Minneapolis. The State Patrol initially pulled over Cobb, who was driving a Ford Focus with no tail lights, and discovered that he was wanted for a felony incident in Ramsey County. Troopers on the scene attempted to arrest Cobb, but a struggle ensued. Cobb reportedly tried to drive off, leading to a trooper opening fire and striking Cobb multiple times.

In response to Cobb’s death, activists and family members gathered in front of the governor’s mansion, calling for the release of unedited video footage. Veteran activist Spike Moss emphasized the importance of fighting for justice, stating that injustice affects everyone. Cobb’s mother, Nyra Fields-Miller, emotionally expressed her desire for justice for her son.
