SANDERSVILLE, Ga. (WJBF) – Authorities in Washington County are currently at the scene of a plane crash on the 2000 Block of Kaolin Road. The Washington County Sheriff’s Office and Sandersville Police Department are urging motorists to exercise caution in the area as emergency crews work to manage the situation.

According to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), a twin-engine Velocity Twin aircraft crashed into a nearby pond close to Kaolin Field Airport in Sandersville. The incident occurred at approximately 9:20 a.m. Two individuals were on board the aircraft at the time of the crash and have been identified as 67-year-old Daniel Mesnard, the pilot, and 69-year-old Timothy Fiser, the passenger.

Both Mesnard and Fiser sustained critical injuries as a result of the crash. Mesnard has been airlifted to Piedmont Macon Medical Center for treatment, while Fiser has been transported to Augusta University Medical Center. The FAA, in conjunction with the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB), will be conducting an investigation into the cause of the crash, with the NTSB taking the lead in the inquiry.
