The Hancock County Sheriff’s Department is currently investigating a fatal crash involving a motorcycle that occurred on Sunday afternoon. The incident took place at the intersection of U.S. 36 and County Road 400 West in Hancock County.

Authorities from the Hancock County sheriff’s office, along with officers from the McCordsville and Fortville police departments, responded to the scene after receiving reports of the crash around 4:30 p.m. on Sunday.

The collision involved a 2006 Kawasaki motorcycle and a 2014 Chevy Silverado pickup truck. The Kawasaki was being driven by a male individual who tragically died at the scene, while the driver of the Chevy Silverado was not injured.

According to witnesses, the motorcyclist was traveling at an extremely high speed and was seen overtaking multiple vehicles in a no-passing zone. The motorcyclist has been identified as 30-year-old Robert Siuzdak from Avon.

Deputies reported that the truck was crossing both lanes of U.S. 36 to continue north on County Road 400 West. Based on evidence found at the scene, it is believed that the truck had already crossed the eastbound lane and was in the process of crossing the westbound lane when the motorcycle collided with it while attempting to pass other vehicles.

The sheriff’s department confirmed that Siuzdak was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

As a result of the investigation, U.S. 36 had to be closed for approximately two hours to allow officials to examine the scene and gather evidence.
