Colorado Springs Woman Sentenced to Over 20 Years in Prison for Hit-and-Run Incident in Parker

A Colorado Springs woman has been sentenced to more than two decades in prison for a hit-and-run incident that occurred in Parker, according to the 18th Judicial District Attorney’s Office. The incident took place at the intersection of Parker Road and Cottonwood Drive on June 16, 2022, around 2 a.m. when officers from the Parker Police Department responded to a car crash.

Upon arrival, officers discovered a pedestrian, identified as 25-year-old Lacy Lewis, lying in the middle of the road. It was revealed during the investigation that Lewis and her boyfriend were walking home in the crosswalk when they were struck by 46-year-old Jessica Stahl. Fortunately, Lewis’ boyfriend escaped without injuries.

According to the District Attorney’s Office, Stahl initially stopped and asked Lewis’ boyfriend if she had hit her, but she failed to call 911 or offer any assistance. Instead, she returned to her car and remained there for nearly six minutes. When Parker police officers approached her vehicle, she fled the scene. After a high-speed chase that lasted about a mile, Stahl finally pulled over and was subsequently arrested.

Upon showing signs of being under the influence, Stahl was taken for a drug test, which revealed extensive track marks and destroyed veins from heroin use. Due to the inability to draw blood, medical staff collected a urine sample, which confirmed Stahl’s use of illicit drugs, including heroin, methamphetamine, Vicodin, fentanyl, suboxone, and diphenhydramine.

Following a four-day trial, a jury convicted Stahl on charges of vehicular homicide/DUI, vehicular assault/DUI, child abuse, leaving the scene of an accident involving serious bodily injury, and leaving the scene of an accident causing death. Deputy District Attorney Corrie Caler emphasized the danger Stahl posed by having her young child in the car at the time of the incident, stating that she had no business being on the road that night and put countless lives at risk.

The sentencing serves as a reminder of the severe consequences that come with hit-and-run incidents and highlights the importance of responsible and safe driving practices.
