Brandon Man Arrested for Drunk Driving and Fatal Motorcycle accident

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) – A tragic incident occurred late Saturday night on the eastern edge of Sioux Falls when Anthony Surdez, a resident of Brandon, turned in front of a motorcycle, resulting in the death of the rider. Sioux Falls Police reported that the collision took place at Arrowhead Drive and Veterans Parkway.

Instead of waiting for law enforcement to arrive at the scene, Surdez chose to drive home. However, Brandon police were able to locate him and place him under arrest. Surdez is currently being held in the Minnehaha County jail, facing charges of vehicular homicide, DUI, and hit and run.

Disturbingly, this is not Surdez’s first offense. Court records reveal that he has been arrested for DUI a staggering five times since 2008.

The victim of the crash has been identified as Jonathan Paulsness, a 29-year-old man. This tragic incident marks the second motorcycle fatality in Sioux Falls over the past weekend, highlighting the urgent need for improved road safety measures.
