Body Found in Plastic Barrel at Malibu Beach Identified as Black Adult

A lifeguard at Malibu Lagoon State Beach in California made a chilling discovery when they spotted a plastic barrel floating offshore. Inside the 55-liter black drum, officials found the body of a Black adult, according to Lieutenant Hugo Reynaga of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

Homicide investigators have begun examining the circumstances surrounding the man’s death. On Monday morning, the lifeguard retrieved the barrel from the lagoon and opened it on shore, revealing the non-responsive individual. Paramedics and deputies were called to the scene, but the man was pronounced dead on the beach.

The duration for which the barrel had been floating in the lagoon before being retrieved remains unclear. However, the sheriff’s department received multiple reports from individuals who claimed to have seen it in the lagoon over the weekend.
