NEVADA COUNTY, California (KOLO) – A 72-year-old man has been arrested for murder by the Nevada County Sheriff’s Office.

Anthony Eric Stewart was apprehended on Sunday after an intensive homicide investigation conducted over the weekend.

The investigation was initiated when deputies from the Nevada County Sheriff’s Office received a distress call late Saturday night at approximately 11:30 p.m. The caller, a passing motorist, reported the presence of a deceased man near a vehicle on the side of Tyler Foote Crossing Road and Black Sands Mine Road in Nevada City.

Upon arrival, deputies discovered the lifeless body of a 61-year-old Nevada City resident at the scene. The victim’s identity is being withheld until his next of kin has been notified.

Authorities confirmed that the vehicle found at the location belonged to the victim and exhibited external damages.

Following this discovery, detectives categorized the death as suspicious, prompting further investigation.
