Motorcycle and Pickup Truck Collision in Hancock County Claims Avon Man’s Life
Investigation reveals excessive speed and dangerous passing as factors
INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — A tragic accident occurred over the weekend in Hancock County, resulting in the death of a 30-year-old man from Avon. The collision involved a motorcycle and a pickup truck, according to local authorities.
On Sunday, just before 4:30 p.m., police and sheriff’s deputies rushed to the scene of the crash at the intersection of U.S. 36/State Road 67 and County Road 400 West, situated between McCordsville and Fortville.
The Hancock County Sheriff’s Department stated that the incident involved a Kawasaki motorcycle and a Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck.
According to investigators, 30-year-old Robert Siuzdak was driving the motorcycle heading east on U.S. 36 towards Fortville. In an attempt to pass multiple vehicles, Siuzdak crossed into the westbound lane and collided with the side of the pickup truck.
Witnesses at the scene informed the police that the motorcycle had been traveling at a high speed and had already overtaken several vehicles within a designated no-passing zone before the fatal crash occurred.
Despite wearing a helmet, Siuzdak was pronounced dead by medics at the scene. The driver of the pickup truck, a 39-year-old Greenfield man, escaped unharmed as he was wearing his seatbelt at the time of the accident.
Authorities have ruled out alcohol and drugs as contributing factors to the crash. However, U.S. 36 was temporarily closed for approximately two hours to allow the Hancock County Fatal accident Crash Team to conduct their thorough on-scene investigation.
