A train-car collision at an unmanned level crossing in East Java has resulted in six deaths and two serious injuries. Jombang, East Java – A tragic accident occurred on Saturday evening when a train collided with a car at an unmanned level crossing in East Java Province. This incident took place just eleven days after a train-truck collision in Central Java.

The spokesperson of PT Kereta Api Indonesia’s (KAI’s) VII Regional Operation (Daop) Madiun, Supriyanto, confirmed that the accident resulted in the deaths of six people, while two others sustained serious injuries.

The Dhoho 423 train-car crash occurred at around 11:14 p.m. local time at the level crossing between Jombang Station and Sembung Station in Jombang District. The ill-fated car was traveling from north to south.

Prior to the collision, several local residents had warned the car driver to reduce speed as a train was passing. Unfortunately, the driver did not heed their warnings and continued at a steady speed, resulting in the crash.

The train, which operates on the Blitar-Surabaya City route, dragged the car, but it was allowed to continue its journey after a ground check by Jombang station officers. The car debris was cleared from the railway track, and the victims were evacuated.

Authorities rushed two injured victims, identified as Fikri Hidayatuloh (42) and Arimbi (13), to Jombang public hospital for medical treatment. The car driver, Wahyu Kuswoyo (42), and five other passengers, Sumiowati (60), Alinsa Mareta (16), Sutrianingsih (30), Azahrah Rohmah (14), and Adelia (19), unfortunately, lost their lives in the accident.

This incident serves as a reminder of the importance of obeying traffic rules and being cautious at level crossings. Authorities continue to investigate and urge drivers to exercise caution to prevent such tragic accidents from happening in the future.
