Three-Vehicle Crash on Route 95 in Topsfield Leaves One dead

A tragic three-vehicle crash on Route 95 in Topsfield, Massachusetts, resulted in one fatality on Friday. The Massachusetts State Police were dispatched to the scene to investigate the incident.

According to Dave Procopio of the Massachusetts State Police, the crash occurred at around 4:17 p.m. when a 2008 GMC Acadia SUV suddenly decelerated and came to a stop. A 52-year-old Peabody man driving a 2007 Chevrolet Impala behind the Acadia attempted to brake to avoid a collision.

Unfortunately, the Impala veered into the median on the left-hand side, while a 2006 Chevrolet Express Van driving in the left lane also tried to maneuver away from the Impala but was unsuccessful. The Impala collided with the Express Van, causing it to roll over one-and-a-half times and two of its passengers to be thrown from the vehicle.

Tragically, one of the thrown victims, identified as 44-year-old Valkisergio Costa Silva of Centerville, was pronounced dead at the scene. Another passenger suffered serious injuries and was airlifted to Boston Medical Center, while the driver and third passenger of the van sustained injuries of varying severity.

The driver of the Acadia pulled over to the breakdown lane after the crash, and both passengers fled into the nearby woods. One of the passengers, 30-year-old David Guzman of Lynn, was apprehended by the State Police. However, the driver, described as a Hispanic man wearing a gray T-shirt, remains at large.

The investigation into the crash is being conducted by the State Police-Newbury Barracks, along with other law enforcement agencies. The incident led to temporary lane closures but has since been reopened.
