A man from North Carolina tragically lost his life while on a fishing trip. His friend discovered his missing fishing pole days before his body was found, as reported by officials.
The two friends were near a lake on July 22 when one of them, identified as 29-year-old Kyle Zachary Moberly, expressed interest in swimming to the other side of the cove to fish. Instead of walking the trail, he decided to swim. While Moberly’s friend continued fishing from their original spot, he realized Moberly was missing when it was time to leave. The only sign of him was his fishing pole, which was found in the woods, according to the Davidson County Sheriff’s Office.
Moberly disappeared from the Buddle Creek Access Area near High Rock Lake in Lexington, a region known for its boating and fishing opportunities located approximately 35 miles south of Winston-Salem. First responders were called to the area for a possible drowning at around 9 p.m. on July 22. Over the course of two days, search efforts involving boats, sonar technology, and foot searches took place. Eventually, a 911 caller reported sighting a body, which was later identified as Moberly. Authorities have ruled out foul play as the cause of death.

Drowning

Drowning is a significant cause of death in the United States, with approximately 4,000 fatalities reported each year, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). It is also a leading cause of death for children. Certain factors can increase the risk of drowning, including lack of swimming skills, inadequate supervision, failure to wear a life jacket, and consuming alcohol while near or in water. The National Drowning Prevention Alliance recommends various safety measures, such as checking local weather conditions, never swimming alone, and using appropriate equipment. Trusting one’s instincts and leaving the water if something feels wrong is also advised.
