Chivas Suffered a Setback of Two Goals and a Red Card before the Game was Halted due to Bad Weather

The Leagues Cup showdown between Chivas and FC Cincinnati was temporarily halted at the 59th minute due to a thunderstorm in the vicinity of the TQL Stadium.

Chivas Struggles and Match Suspension

Chivas fell behind in the scoreline after striker Brandon Vázquez netted twice within the early moments of the match, alongside the dismissal of Gilberto Sepúlveda at the end of the first half. Given the thunderstorm, the event organizers decided to suspend the match, advising the attendees to seek shelter within the venue until it was safe to return to the stands. Meanwhile, both teams headed to the locker rooms.

Weather Conditions and Updates

“Lightning is in the vicinity. Local end fans and those close to the field should vacate their seats for safety. We will provide updates as the game can resume,” FC Cincinnati announced on social media.

Forty minutes into the break, FC Cincinnati reported that the severe threat of a thunderstorm in the area was ongoing and they were constantly monitoring the situation to provide an update.

An hour into the break and counting, Chivas reminded fans on social media that “due to the thunderstorm, there is a waiting period of at least 30 minutes for the match to resume.”

Potential Resumption of the Game

At approximately 21:00 hours (19:00ET), Chivas stated that “regardless of the weather conditions, both teams could come out to warm up for the resumption of the game at 21:15 hours. However, the break continued until close to 22:00 hours.
