On July 27, 2023, a non-injury hit-skip crash was reported to the Union County Sheriff’s Office. The incident occurred near the intersection of Honda Parkway and Allen Center Road. According to the caller, the vehicle responsible for the crash fled eastbound on Allen Center Road.
While deputies were en route to the scene of the hit-skip crash, another report came in about a single-vehicle rollover crash on Allen Center Road, west of Holycross Epps Road.
Deputies and units from the Allen Township Fire Department promptly responded to the rollover crash. They discovered the driver of a 2020 Nissan Altima trapped inside the vehicle, unresponsive. The preliminary investigation revealed that the Nissan Altima was the suspect vehicle involved in the initial hit-skip crash at the intersection of Honda Parkway and Allen Center Road. The driver, identified as Frank L. Blackburn, 43 years old from Marysville, was traveling eastbound on Allen Center Road when he veered off the road, struck a driveway culvert, and rolled over.
Unfortunately, Blackburn was pronounced deceased at Memorial Hospital where he was transported following the rollover crash. There were no other occupants in the vehicle.
Based on the preliminary investigation, excessive speed was identified as a significant factor in the crash. It is worth noting that Blackburn was wearing a safety belt at the time of the incident. Allen Center Road had to be closed for approximately three hours to facilitate the crash investigation. The Allen Township Road Maintenance Department provided assistance at the scene.
The crash remains under investigation by the Union County Sheriff’s Office.
