Benjamin Robertson, 33, of DC, has been arrested and charged with murder for a fatal crash near the White House that took the life of Bing Wong. The crash occurred as Robertson was trying to evade US Secret Service officers. He initially stopped but then sped away, running a red light and hitting at least two people in the crosswalk, including Wong. Robertson has been charged with second-degree murder. Benjamin Robertson, a 33-year-old resident of Washington, DC, was taken into custody and charged with murder on Thursday in connection with a tragic incident that occurred on July 12 near the White House. The fatal crash resulted in the death of Bing Wong, a Philadelphia native.

The collision occurred as Robertson attempted to evade officers from the US Secret Service who were attempting to pull him over for driving with an expired registration. This pursuit took place near the Washington Memorial, at the intersection of 17th Street NW and Constitution Avenue NW.

Lieutenant Paul Mayhair of the US Secret Service Uniformed Division stated that officers initially managed to get Robertson to stop, but he suddenly accelerated and fled on 17th Street. Robertson ran a red light and struck at least two pedestrians in the crosswalk, including Wong.

Shortly after 4:30 p.m. on July 12, Anthony Guglielmi, a spokesperson for the Secret Service, confirmed that Wong, one of the individuals hit by the hit-and-run driver, succumbed to his injuries at a local hospital.

Robertson has been charged with second-degree murder. Additional details about his upcoming court appearance have not been disclosed by investigators.
