Just a day after their wedding, a man finds himself “fighting for his life” in the hospital after being viciously attacked in a hotel lobby. The incident took place at the Even Hotel in Pittsburgh on July 24, when Larry Gilmore and his wife, Shalawrae, were celebrating their honeymoon.

Surveillance Footage Captures the Brutal Assault

A 26-year-old suspect, identified as Heiko-Lamar Calhoun, was captured on surveillance footage assaulting the 41-year-old victim. The footage shows Calhoun putting Gilmore in a chokehold while waiting for an elevator. He then proceeded to repeatedly slam Gilmore’s head on the ground, dragging him across the floor, and subjecting him to further physical violence by hitting, kicking, and stomping him in the head.

Shalawrae Gilmore described the horrifying scene, stating, “I walked over to see what was going on and I found him in a puddle of blood.”

Attacker Arrested, Charges Filed

Calhoun was swiftly taken into custody by law enforcement officers while they provided assistance to Gilmore. According to reports, the attack was triggered by something Gilmore said to Calhoun as he walked by in the hotel lobby.

Calhoun is now facing charges of criminal attempted homicide, aggravated assault, robbery, and recklessly endangering another person, as indicated in court records.

Long and Difficult Road to Recovery

Following the assault, Gilmore was hospitalized with extensive trauma to his body. His wife has set up a GoFundMe page to support his recovery, acknowledging that this will be just the beginning of a challenging journey.

Hotel Responds and Call for Increased Security

In response to the incident, the Even Hotel released a statement expressing their concern for Gilmore and his family. They also commended their staff, the Pittsburgh Police Department, and local EMTs for their swift actions and assistance.

Shalawrae Gilmore, however, is calling for the hotel to be temporarily shut down until they can implement stronger security measures to ensure the safety of their guests.
