Three Marines Found dead at Camp Lejeune Died from Carbon Monoxide Poisoning

The Pender County Sheriff’s Office in North Carolina has confirmed that three Marines discovered deceased in a car outside Camp Lejeune on Sunday morning were victims of carbon monoxide poisoning. Autopsies conducted revealed that all three deaths were consistent with carbon monoxide poisoning, although the exact source of exposure was not disclosed.

The Marines have been identified as motor vehicle operators from Combat Logistics Battalion 2, Combat Logistics Regiment 2, 2nd Marine Logistics Group. Their ages ranged from 19 to 23 years old.

The authorities received a call from the mother of one of the Marines, expressing concern about her son’s failure to arrive on a flight to Oklahoma the previous night. She had been in contact with a supervisor in his unit who was heading to the Speedway Convenience Store in an attempt to locate him. At around 9 a.m., a second call was made, informing the Pender County Sheriff’s Office that the missing Marine and two others were found dead inside a vehicle parked at the Speedway.

Sheriff Alan W. Cutler expressed his deep sadness over the tragic loss of these three young men who had served the country with honor.
