RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) – Tragedy struck when three U.S. Marines were discovered unresponsive inside a privately owned vehicle parked at a gas station in Hampstead, North Carolina. The Pender County Sheriff’s Office deputies made the grim discovery on Sunday morning. Following autopsies conducted by the North Carolina medical examiner’s office on Wednesday, it was determined that all three marines had tragically succumbed to carbon monoxide poisoning. Sgt. Chester Ward, representing the sheriff’s office, conveyed to The Associated Press that the incident appeared to be accidental. The names of the deceased lance corporals were released as 19-year-old Tanner J. Kaltenberg, 23-year-old Merax C. Dockery, and 23-year-old Ivan R. Garcia.
