A body of a teenager was discovered in a murder suspect’s home (Chicago Police Department)

During the investigation of a 33-year-old suspect accused of murdering a 69-year-old HVAC contractor in broad daylight, authorities made a shocking discovery. They found the body of a teenager in the suspect’s freezer.
According to authorities, the two deaths are connected to one man, Brandon Sanders.
ABC 7 Chicago reports that police found a “teenager’s body in the freezer” while investigating the suspect’s home. The victim has been identified as 18-year-old Iman Al-Sarraj.
Although Mr Sanders has not been charged with Al-Sarraj’s murder, the Chicago Sun Times reported.
“My heart is shattered in a million pieces,” lamented Al-Sarraj’s father to the Sun Times. “I will never, ever have a normal life, especially after I saw my daughter’s face and what the monster did to her.”
However, Mr Sanders has been charged in another case.
Rasim Katanic was fatally stabbed on May 12th around 4:40 pm while working on a walk-in cooler compressor on the rooftop of a restaurant in West Ridge, Illinois. On June 29th, more than a month later, Mr Sanders, a resident of Evanston, Illinois, was arrested for the murder, according to the charge release.
Mr Sanders appeared in court on Tuesday, facing charges of first-degree murder, armed robbery, and residential burglary.
“My dad was slaughtered,” said Aida Sutardjo, Katanic’s daughter, to ABC 7.
“This was not the first time my dad was on that roof. This has been my dad’s long-term client for over 10 years,” she added. “He probably didn’t think my dad was working. He probably did not see or assume anybody was working on that roof, encountered my dad, and then, I think, we know what happened.”
According to the Tribune, the prosecution argued that after stabbing Katanic in the neck and head, Mr Sanders stole his wallet, keys, and a screwdriver. The screwdriver was used to unscrew and remove a skylight to a neighboring apartment building, allowing Mr Sanders to force his way inside.
But Mr Sanders didn’t stop there, according to the prosecutors. Once inside the apartment of Loyola graduates, he shaved in the bathroom, changed his clothes, and even took three watches before leaving.

However, it seems that Mr Sanders forgot his wallet and ID cards when he changed clothes. The graduate students found them mixed with the discarded clothes and a water bottle the next day. DNA found on the water bottle matched Mr Sanders’. Additionally, video footage captured him leaving the building wearing the stolen clothes. The screwdriver used in the crime was also found on top of the building’s mailbox.
Prosecutors highlighted Mr Sanders’ unusual behavior earlier that day. They revealed that he had visited a nearby furniture store where his relatives work. Allegedly, the 33-year-old told the business owner that they no longer had to pay rent because his landlord was “on the roof dead and that he took care of that,” according to Assistant State’s Attorney Kathryn Morrissey. However, it remains unclear whether Katanic was actually the landlord.
Two hours before Katanic’s death, Mr Sanders entered a bank and called the FBI’s national threat operation center, reporting “a plot to overthrow the government” and providing his name and address.
Mr Sanders’ attorney mentioned his client’s potential mental health issues and argued that there was no direct video evidence linking him to Katanic’s stabbing. Nevertheless, Mr Sanders was denied bail.
In August 2019, the suspect faced additional charges in Montana, including human trafficking and aggravated promotion of prostitution.
