Pastor Fatally Struck by Police Officer in Stamford, Connecticut

A tragic incident occurred in Stamford, Connecticut, where a devoted pastor lost his life after being hit by a police officer while the officer was en route to a call. The collision took place near the intersection of Wire Mill Road and Studio Road, just before 4:15 p.m. on Wednesday.

According to authorities, the victim, identified as 69-year-old Rev. Tommie Jackson, was walking across the street to retrieve his mail from the mailbox when the accident occurred. Officer Zachary Thomas Lockwood, in an attempt to avoid the pedestrian, entered the westbound lane of traffic but unfortunately struck Jackson.

After the collision, the police cruiser came to a stop in front of a nearby residence. Stamford police immediately rushed Jackson to a hospital, but tragically, he succumbed to his injuries.

The location of the incident is described as a neighborhood surrounded by dense woods, featuring a narrow roadway without sidewalks. Given these circumstances, it is essential for drivers and pedestrians to exercise caution and be aware of their surroundings.

Stamford Police Chief Timothy Shaw expressed his condolences, stating, “Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family of the deceased.” The mayor of Stamford also released a heartfelt statement, emphasizing his friendship with the late pastor and expressing deep sadness over his untimely passing.

Connecticut State Police have taken over the investigation to ensure a thorough and impartial examination of the incident.
