According to authorities, the victim, identified as 69-year-old Rev. Tommie Jackson, was walking across the street to retrieve his mail from the mailbox when the accident occurred. Officer Zachary Thomas Lockwood, in an attempt to avoid the pedestrian, entered the westbound lane of traffic but unfortunately struck Jackson.

After the collision, the police cruiser came to a stop in front of a nearby residence. Stamford police immediately rushed Jackson to a hospital, but tragically, he succumbed to his injuries.
