Man Fights for His Life After Brutal Attack in Hotel Lobby on His Honeymoon

A man is currently battling for his life in the hospital just a day after his wedding, as he was viciously assaulted in a hotel lobby, according to his wife.
The horrifying incident occurred at around 7 p.m. on Monday, July 24, at the Even Hotel in Pittsburgh. Larry Gilmore and his wife, Shalawrae, were celebrating their honeymoon at the hotel.
Surveillance footage captured the 26-year-old suspect, Heiko-Lamar Calhoun, putting the 41-year-old victim in a chokehold while waiting for an elevator. Calhoun then proceeded to repeatedly slam Gilmore’s head on the ground, dragging him across the floor and mercilessly kicking and stomping on his head, as reported by the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.
“I walked over to see what was going on and I found him in a puddle of blood,” Shalawrae Gilmore tearfully told WPXI.
Gilmore received immediate medical attention while Calhoun was apprehended by the police. Authorities stated that Calhoun attacked Gilmore because the honeymooner had allegedly said something to him as he walked past him in the lobby, according to KDKA.
Calhoun is now facing charges of criminal attempted homicide, aggravated assault, robbery, and recklessly endangering another person, as recorded in court documents.
Larry Gilmore’s wife has set up a GoFundMe page, stating that her husband is currently hospitalized with severe injuries all over his body. She emphasized that his recovery will be a long and difficult journey.
The hotel where the incident occurred expressed its concern for Gilmore and his family in a statement to various media outlets, including KDKA. The hotel also commended the prompt response of its staff, the Pittsburgh Police Department, and the local EMTs who provided aid to the victim. They pledged full cooperation with the ongoing investigation.
Shalawrae Gilmore is demanding that the hotel be temporarily closed until additional security measures are implemented to ensure the safety of its guests, as reported by WPXI.
