Man Arrested After Gunfire Exchange with Deputies in Douglasville

ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) – Law enforcement authorities successfully apprehended a man on Wednesday in Douglasville after an intense standoff that culminated in gunfire exchange, resulting in the suspect sustaining injuries.

According to reports from the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, the individual involved, identified as Deshawta McClain, allegedly held his family hostage at gunpoint. Upon receiving the distress call, deputies swiftly responded to the scene, only to find McClain barricaded inside the residence, adamantly refusing to cooperate with the authorities.

The tense situation endured for approximately half an hour until McClain finally emerged from his house, opening fire at the Sheriff’s Emergency Response Team. In response, the deputies retaliated, shooting and injuring McClain in the process.

Medical personnel promptly arrived at the scene and transported McClain to a nearby hospital via ambulance for immediate treatment of his injuries.

To ensure transparency and impartiality, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation has been assigned to oversee and conduct a thorough examination of the shooting incident.
