The Tucson Police Department has made an arrest in a fatal shooting that occurred earlier this year. On February 25, officers responded to a shooting on North Stone Avenue and West Fort Lowell Road. The victim, Warren Lee Lewis, was found with gunshot wounds and later pronounced dead at the hospital. The suspect, Carlos Gandara Jr., was identified and apprehended on July 26 near North Flowing Wells Road and West Fort Lowell Road. Gandara is currently facing charges of 1st Degree Murder, Drive-by shooting, and Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon. The investigation is ongoing. Arrest Made in Northside Fatal shooting in Tucson

TUCSON, Ariz. (KGUN) — The Tucson Police Department announced that they have apprehended a suspect in connection with a deadly shooting that occurred earlier this year on the Northside.

On the evening of February 25, 2023, law enforcement officers swiftly responded to a distress call reporting gunshots at the intersection of North Stone Avenue and West Fort Lowell Road.

Upon arrival at the scene, officers discovered 61-year-old Warren Lee Lewis, who had sustained gunshot wounds. He was immediately transported to Banner University Medical Center for medical treatment.

Tragically, Lewis succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the hospital.

During the initial investigation, the police did not immediately identify any suspects.

According to the Tucson Police Department, Lewis was walking along North Stone Avenue accompanied by another individual when a passing car opened fire on them.

A vigilant security guard, who happened to be working nearby, heard the gunshots and found Lewis lying near the roadside.

Identified as the prime suspect, 25-year-old Carlos Gandara Jr. was promptly issued an arrest warrant. Officers from the Operations Division West/Community Response Team initiated a manhunt to locate him.

Finally, on July 26, 2023, law enforcement officers tracked down the suspect at a residence in close proximity to North Flowing Wells Road and West Fort Lowell Road.

Given the potential risks involved, members of the Tucson Police Department SWAT team were summoned to assist in the apprehension. Eventually, Gandara was safely taken into custody.

The suspect has since been booked into the Pima County Jail, where he remains detained on charges of 1st Degree Murder, Drive-by shooting, and Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon, as indicated on his arrest warrant.

The investigation into this tragic incident is still ongoing, with law enforcement urging anyone with relevant information to come forward and contact 88-CRIME.
