The court documents reveal that Groover had a history of violent behavior. At the age of 17, he fired five BB pellets, which led to his conviction for battery. Groover was placed on juvenile conditional release until April 2016.

According to Groover’s mother, he and Rider were deeply in love and happily married. However, Groover had a history of violence. It was his mother’s gun that he used to shoot Rider.
