The first shooting took place around 9 p.m. on Westmead Drive near South Dairy Ashford Road. Police responded to a report of a man breaking into vehicles in an apartment complex parking lot. When officers arrived, they discovered a car in the middle of a driveway with a deceased man inside who had been shot. The police are still determining if the victim lived in the complex and are actively investigating the case.
Approximately an hour later, at 10:15 p.m., another shooting occurred at the 88twenty Apartments on Westheimer Road near Fondren Road. A security guard patrolling the parking garage witnessed at least one person breaking into vehicles. The security guard confronted the suspect(s), resulting in the suspect firing multiple shots and hitting the guard in the arms, legs, and abdomen. The suspect(s) fled the scene, and the security guard was taken to the hospital in critical condition.
The 88twenty Apartments have experienced violence in the past. Last year, a man named Gonzalo Lauzurique Garcia was found dead in the apartment complex’s parking lot. Crime Stoppers is offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of the suspect(s) involved in Garcia’s death. Authorities encourage anyone with information to contact the HPD Homicide Division or Crime Stoppers anonymously.
