A tragic house fire in San Antonio has claimed the lives of five individuals, including a 6-year-old girl named Isabella Morales. The fire broke out in the early hours of Saturday morning on Winding Oak Drive on the North Side. Firefighters arrived at the scene to find smoke and flames in the garage, with heavy smoke throughout the house.

Isabella Morales was pulled from the fire and later pronounced dead. Four other victims, including Felicia Valadez, 50, Lillie Valadez, 11, a 29-year-old woman, and a 12-year-old boy, were taken to the hospital in critical condition but unfortunately succumbed to their injuries. One man, identified as a grandfather, remains hospitalized in critical condition.

San Antonio Fire Chief Charles Hood described this as the deadliest house fire since 2012, and it has “claimed the lives of, basically, a generation.” The exact cause of the fire is still under investigation, but foul play is not suspected.

Hood emphasized the importance of smoke detectors and escape plans, highlighting the fact that the home did have a smoke detector in operation on the second floor. He urged residents to prioritize fire safety and encouraged them to have working smoke detectors and an escape plan in place.
