One person was killed and five others were injured in a multivehicle car crash in Woodburn, Oregon. The driver of a Mercury Grand Marquis was speeding and recklessly driving through traffic, hitting multiple cars along the way. The crash occurred on Highway 214, causing a temporary shutdown of the highway for over four hours. A tragic multivehicle car crash in Woodburn, Oregon, has left one person dead and five others injured. The incident occurred on July 24 when the driver of a gold-colored Mercury Grand Marquis, identified as 33-year-old Aristotle Vargas, was recklessly driving through traffic along Highway 214.
According to Woodburn Police, Vargas first hit the back of a white Toyota Tacoma near Astor Way. Ignoring the consequences, he continued eastbound on Highway 214, speeding through the intersection of North Settlemier Avenue. There, he collided with a FedEx truck, causing it to tip onto its side in the middle of the road.
The reckless driver didn’t stop there. Vargas then crashed head-on into a Buick Acadia, which had two adults and one minor inside. Fortunately, they all suffered non-life threatening injuries. The driver of the Toyota Tacoma was taken to the hospital with similar injuries, while the driver of the FedEx truck had minor injuries and didn’t require hospitalization.
Vargas, on the other hand, sustained life-threatening injuries and had to be extricated from his car. Despite the efforts of first responders, he was airlifted to Oregon Health & Science University hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
The multivehicle crash is still under investigation, and no further details have been released at this time. It serves as a tragic reminder of the dangers of speeding and reckless driving. Such actions not only put the lives of the drivers at risk but also endanger the lives of innocent bystanders.
