A tragic helicopter crash in Alaska has claimed the lives of four individuals, including a pilot and three scientists. The incident occurred on Thursday in the state’s North Slope area, where the helicopter crashed into a shallow lake while transporting staff from the Alaska Department of Natural Resources. The bodies of the victims have since been recovered.

The deceased have been identified as Ronald Daanen, Justin Germann, Tori Moore, and pilot Bernard “Tony” Higdon. The helicopter involved in the crash was a Bell 206. The wreckage of the aircraft can only be raised with the assistance of another helicopter, which has proven challenging due to the high demand for commercial helicopters during Alaska’s fire season.
