A driver involved in a fatal crash in Sedgwick County, Kansas, is facing charges of driving under the influence. The incident occurred just before 8 p.m. on Thursday and resulted in the death of one individual.

According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, Caleb T. Faron, an 18-year-old from Bel Aire, was driving a 2013 Dodge Journey northbound on Interstate 135. As Faron moved from the #3 lane to the #4 lane, he failed to notice a 2011 Hyundai Sonata driven by Uriel Orosco, 31, slowing down in lane 4 with emergency hazard lights activated.

The Dodge collided with the Hyundai from behind, causing the Hyundai to rotate counterclockwise and come to a stop against the KDOT bridge wall in the #4 lane. The Dodge overturned and came to rest in the #3 lane.

Tragically, Orosco was pronounced dead at the scene and was later transported to the Forensics Science Center. Nallely Medrano Meraz, a passenger in the Hyundai, was taken to Wesley Medical Center by EMS.

Faron, who was not injured in the crash, was subsequently booked into the Sedgwick County jail on charges that include driving under the influence and marijuana possession. However, he has since been released from custody.

The Kansas Highway Patrol reported that Orosco was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident. Additionally, there were two children in the Hyundai, but their records are protected data due to their status as juveniles.

This tragic incident serves as a reminder of the dangers of driving under the influence and the importance of practicing safe driving habits. It is crucial for all drivers to remain sober and attentive while on the road to prevent such devastating accidents from occurring..
