A woman was found dead after an apparent bear encounter near Yellowstone National Park. The victim has been identified as 47-year-old Amie Adamson from Derby, Kansas. Her body was discovered on Buttermilk Trail, west of West Yellowstone, Montana, on Saturday morning. Authorities found grizzly bear tracks at the scene, and an investigation is currently underway.

Amie Adamson was an adventurous individual who left her teaching career in 2015 to backpack across the United States. She even wrote a book about her experiences titled “Walking Out: One Teacher’s Reflections on Walking out of the Classroom to Walk America.” Her mother, Janet Adamson, described her daughter as beautiful, smart, and talented. She stated that Amie loved the beauty of Yellowstone and died doing what she loved.

Following the incident, the Custer Gallatin National Forest implemented an emergency closure of the Buttermilk Area to ensure human safety. Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks stated that the population of grizzly bears has been growing in recent years.

This tragic incident near Yellowstone National Park is not the first bear-related incident in recent months. In Arizona, a 66-year-old man was killed in a highly unusual, unprovoked bear attack while building a cabin. Additionally, a 35-year-old sheepherder in Colorado was severely wounded after being attacked by a black bear.

To stay safe when venturing into bear-populated areas, Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks suggests carrying and knowing how to use bear spray, traveling in groups, avoiding carcass sites, watching for signs of bears, making noise to alert bears, and never approaching a bear.

The loss of Amie Adamson is a heartbreaking reminder of the dangers that can exist in the wilderness. Authorities and wildlife officials are working to ensure the safety of visitors to Yellowstone National Park and other bear-populated areas..
