A 70-year-old man has been charged with murder after his wife was found shot dead inside their home in Cherokee County, Georgia. The incident occurred around 2:30 a.m. on Monday, July 24, in unincorporated Cherokee County.

According to the sheriff’s office, authorities responded to reports of a shooting and were confronted by the man, identified as Charles “Terry” Collins, with a gun when they arrived at the scene. Despite deputies’ demands to put down his weapon, Collins ignored them and attempted to flee through a back door. He was eventually apprehended and taken into custody.

Deputies discovered Collins’ wife, 63-year-old Deborah Collins, shot on the floor of their home. She was pronounced dead at the scene. The motive behind the shooting remains under investigation.

Collins now faces multiple charges, including felony murder, malice murder, and aggravated assault. He has been booked into the Cherokee County Detention Center without bond.

Cherokee County is located approximately 40 miles northwest of downtown Atlanta.
