“Tragic Accident Claims Life of 18-Wheeler Driver in Troy”

Tragedy struck in Troy, Texas early Thursday morning when the driver of an 18-wheeler lost their life in a single-vehicle accident. The Troy Police Department responded to the scene around 4:11 a.m. on the Interstate 35 Service Road in the 200 block of S. Central Avenue.

According to Troy Police Chief Jeremy Gooch, the initial investigation revealed that the tractor-trailer was traveling northbound on Interstate 35 when it veered off the roadway, collided with a guardrail, and crossed a grass median between the main lanes and the service road. The vehicle flipped onto its side and came to a stop in the 200 block of S. Central Avenue. Tragically, the cab of the 18-wheeler caught fire and was engulfed in flames. The driver, identified as 30-year-old Raul Omar Campos, Jr. of McAllen, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The exact cause of the accident is still under investigation. Chief Gooch stated that no other vehicles or individuals were involved in the crash, and Campos was the sole occupant of the tractor-trailer. The Bell County Sheriff’s Department and the Troy Volunteer Fire Department provided assistance at the scene. The cleanup process lasted for most of the day, and the service road was reopened to traffic late Thursday afternoon.
