A tragic two-vehicle accident occurred in the Town of Hartford, as reported by the Washington County Sheriff’s Department. The incident took place at the intersection of County Trunk K and Interstate 41 at 11:06 p.m. on Thursday night. In response to the accident, deputies from the Washington County Sheriff’s Office and officers from the Slinger Police Department rushed to the scene. The St. Lawrence and Hartford Fire Departments also provided assistance.
Sadly, upon arrival, it was discovered that one driver had lost their life. This marks the 11th traffic fatality that the Washington County Sheriff’s Office has investigated in 2023. The deceased individual was identified as a 21-year-old man from the Town of Hartford. His vehicle collided with another vehicle driven by a 64-year-old woman from Fond du Lac County. The fire department managed to extricate her from her vehicle, and she was subsequently airlifted to a hospital for medical treatment.

Preliminary investigation suggests that the Fond du Lac County woman was making a northward turn onto the northbound on-ramp of Interstate 41 when the Town of Hartford man’s vehicle struck her. Speed is believed to have been a contributing factor in the accident.
The roadway was closed for approximately six hours to facilitate investigations carried out by the Washington County Sheriff’s Office.
This unfortunate incident serves as a reminder of the importance of cautious driving and adhering to speed limits. The Washington County Sheriff’s Office will continue to investigate the crash to determine the exact cause.
