An arrest has been made in the shooting death of 19-year-old Jaymyra Burrell, bringing some closure to her grieving family and friends. Baltimore Police announced that they have apprehended 22-year-old Malik McCormick in connection to the incident.

The tragic event occurred on December 4, 2022, in the early hours of the morning. Police received reports of multiple gunshots in the 5600 block of Woodmont Avenue and found Burrell suffering from gunshot wounds. Sadly, she was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigations revealed that McCormick, who was the father of Burrell’s unborn child, was supposed to pick her up for a meal. Witnesses stated that McCormick was Burrell’s main source of transportation. However, after her death, McCormick lied to detectives on body-worn camera footage, claiming he hadn’t seen her in two days.

A witness came forward and stated that McCormick confessed to killing Burrell. Furthermore, evidence of domestic assault was recovered, adding to the weight of the case against him. According to police records, McCormick took Burrell to the location where she was shot multiple times with a 9mm handgun before fleeing in his mother’s vehicle.

Months later, McCormick was discovered during a traffic stop in South Charleston, West Virginia, by deputies from the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office. It was revealed that he had an outstanding warrant for Burrell’s murder. He has since been extradited to Baltimore and is currently being held at Central Booking, facing charges of first-degree murder and various handgun violations.

The arrest of McCormick brings hope for justice in the tragic death of Jaymyra Burrell. Her father, Nathaniel Burrell, expressed his grief and shock at losing his daughter just feet away from their home. While the arrest cannot bring her back, it provides some solace to her loved ones that the responsible party is being held accountable for their actions..
