On June 22, an incident at a Marshall department store in Connecticut led to a shooting that left one man injured. The altercation began when Martinez, riding a motorcycle, believed that Quituizaca-Tigre, a firefighter, had cut him off in traffic. Martinez followed Quituizaca-Tigre into the store, confronting him about the incident. However, it was later determined that Quituizaca-Tigre was driving a different vehicle and was not involved in the traffic incident.

Quituizaca-Tigre attempted to defuse the situation by showing Martinez that he was driving a red car, not the black one Martinez believed had cut him off. He also revealed his firefighter gear to Martinez, explaining that he was not involved in the incident. However, instead of calming down, Martinez threatened Quituizaca-Tigre and put a gun to his neck.

Quituizaca-Tigre, with his Army background and self-defense training, took control of the gun and called for help. However, he struggled to fully disarm Martinez, who was punching him from behind. During the struggle, the gun went off, firing a bullet into the floorboard of Quituizaca-Tigre’s car. Quituizaca-Tigre eventually gained control of the gun but couldn’t fully remove it from Martinez’s hands. In an attempt to protect himself, Quituizaca-Tigre tried to shoot Martinez in the foot, but the gun accidentally fired, hitting Martinez in the leg.

Witnesses and video footage from the store confirmed Quituizaca-Tigre’s version of events, leading to his release without charges. Martinez, on the other hand, was charged and held on bond. The incident serves as a reminder of the importance of de-escalation techniques and the potential dangers of confrontations involving firearms.

The Marshall store employees locked the doors during the incident, and witnesses called 911. Police arrived at the scene to find Martinez injured and the gun in Quituizaca-Tigre’s possession. Both individuals provided statements to the police, with evidence supporting Quituizaca-Tigre’s account of the events. This incident highlights the need for proper gun storage and responsible handling to prevent accidents and potential harm..
