The Woodville man charged in the shooting death of 61-year-old Terry Wayne Warren has pleaded not guilty. Dima Stevanovich Novikov, also known as James Aaron Mulkey, entered his plea less than two months after the incident. He was indicted by a Jackson County grand jury.

The incident occurred on May 26 when deputies received a call about shots fired on County Road 17 in Skyline. Upon arrival, they found Warren suffering from gunshot wounds in his home. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Novikov was identified as a suspect, and a warrant was issued for his arrest. He was arrested in Chatsworth, Georgia, five days later after a multi-state manhunt involving multiple agencies.

Novikov’s reason for changing his name is unclear, and further investigation is needed to understand the motive behind it. Attorneys and prosecutors have been contacted for more information.

Novikov is currently in custody at the Madison County Jail, where he was transferred on July 7. He is being held without bond. An arraignment is scheduled for August 1, followed by a pretrial hearing on August 10 at the Jackson County Courthouse.

The case has garnered attention due to its tragic nature and the extensive efforts made by law enforcement to apprehend the suspect. The plea of not guilty indicates that Novikov intends to contest the charges against him. The upcoming court proceedings will provide an opportunity for both the prosecution and defense to present their evidence and arguments. The outcome of the trial will determine whether Novikov is found guilty or not guilty of the crime..
