Brandon Williams, 19, and Christopher Redic Jr., 20, have been charged with murder in the deaths of 18-year-old Paul Willis, 22-year-old Cynthia Santos, and 18-year-old Gabriella Navarette. Police obtained close-up pictures of the two gunmen, which led to their identification.
According to the affidavits, a small group of people got into a fight just before shots were fired. Williams and Redic, along with two other men, were part of this group. Williams claimed that he shot in self-defense after being threatened by a person named “JoJo” who had previously shot at his mother’s car. Redic admitted to firing his gun after hearing gunshots but said he aimed above the crowd and did not believe that he hit anyone.
The shooting is believed to be gang-related, according to Fort Worth police. While it is unclear if the suspects lived in Como, court records show their home addresses in other parts of the city.
City officials have been in discussions with neighborhood residents about preventing outsiders with bad intentions from attending the annual afterparty. Police Chief Neil Noakes emphasized the need to keep the community safe from such incidents in the future.
