A tragic accident on a Georgia highway has claimed the lives of five people, including the wife and two children of a Hall County deputy. The incident occurred on July 16 along Georgia State Route 365 in Habersham County.

According to Georgia State Patrol, the accident took place at around 3:30 p.m. A driver in a Chevy Corvette, identified as Mitchell Boggs, 58, of Marietta, and a passenger were traveling southbound when their vehicle collided with a Ford Explorer carrying 29-year-old Avonlea Holtzclaw and her two children. The impact caused both vehicles to burst into flames, resulting in the death of all five individuals involved.

The Hall County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that the three victims in the Ford Explorer were the family of Deputy Neil Holtzclaw. Sheriff Gerald Couch expressed his condolences, stating, “There are no words that can adequately express the heartbreak the Holtzclaw family is experiencing right now, but clearly our entire agency is devastated for them.”

Preliminary reports from state troopers did not provide details about the speed of the Corvette or if it was a contributing factor in the accident. However, Habersham County Sheriff Joey Terrell estimated that the Corvette was traveling at “more than 150 mph” before the crash.

The tragic incident has left the community in shock and mourning. Habersham County is located approximately 90 miles northeast of downtown Atlanta.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Holtzclaw family and all those affected by this devastating accident. The loss of innocent lives is always a heartbreaking tragedy, and it serves as a reminder of the importance of safe driving and being vigilant on the roads..
