On July 19th, a shooting incident occurred at Harrison Lofts in Muscatine, Iowa. First responders were dispatched to the scene around noon, where they found a 41-year-old male, Jeremy Smith, deceased from a gunshot wound. The suspect, Andre Jones, was identified by witnesses and a search for him began.
Jones was located at 1414 First Ave, which was a little over half a mile away from the crime scene. After surrounding the location, police were able to successfully apprehend Jones, who surrendered without incident. The quick response and hard work of the officers, as well as the assistance from the community, ensured the safety of the public.

Due to the ongoing situation in the area, the Aquatic Center at Weed Park was closed for the day. The park is located one mile east of where the suspect was arrested. However, police have assured the public that there is no continued danger.
As of now, no charges have been announced, and the investigation is still ongoing. Muscatine Police Department is urging anyone with information about the incident to come forward and call Sgt. Jeff DeVrieze at (563)263-9922 ext. 629.
Muscatine Police Chief Tony Kies expressed gratitude for the community’s support and highlighted that incidents like this do not define them. He emphasized the need to pick up the pieces and move forward.
