Flash floods in Bucks County, Pennsylvania have claimed the lives of five people, including a New Jersey woman, and the search is ongoing for two missing children. The tragedy occurred on Saturday evening when a wall of water up to five feet high swept across Washington Crossing Road in Washington Crossing. Volunteer Fire Company Chief Tim Brewer reported that at least eight people were taken by the floodwaters from Houghs Creek in Upper Makefield Township.
Autopsies have revealed that all five victims died from drowning, and each death has been ruled as accidental. Officials have stated that the victims did not drive into the floodwaters but were instead hit by the sudden flash flood. Among the victims identified so far are Susan Barnhart, 53, of Titusville, and three individuals from Newtown Township: Enzo Depiero, Yuko Love, and Linda Depiero. The body of Katheryn Seley, 32, of Charleston, South Carolina was also found on Sunday. Seley, along with her mother and two of her children, were swept away by the flood.
The search continues for Seley’s two missing children, nine-month-old Conrad Sheils and two-year-old Matilda Sheils. The children’s father, Jim Sheils, was able to rescue their four-year-old son as the waters overtook the roadway. However, Seley and her mother were unable to save Conrad and Matilda before all four were swept away. Dahlia, Seley’s mother, miraculously survived and was found on Sunday.
The family is devastated by the tragedy, and they are asking for prayers for the safe return of Conrad and Matilda. Search efforts will continue through Tuesday as authorities work tirelessly to bring the missing children home to their family..
