“Man Charged in Officer-Involved Shooting at Summerville Convenience Store”

A man has been charged by the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) in connection with a shooting incident that occurred on July 1 in Summerville. Ismael Clark, 32, is facing charges of second-degree burglary, according to SLED spokesperson Renée Wunderlich.

The incident took place at around 11:30 p.m. at a convenience store in Summerville, following a 911 call reporting a burglary. When deputies arrived at the scene, they found Clark inside the business. An interaction between Clark and the deputies ensued, during which shots were fired by the deputies, striking Clark. Fortunately, no deputies were injured in the incident.

Clark has been booked into the Dorchester County Detention Center. This incident marks the 20th officer-involved shooting in South Carolina this year, and the first involving the Dorchester County Sheriff’s Office in 2021.
