The Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office has recently identified a body that was found in April as that of a hiker named Velmurugan Ramnathan, who had gone missing. The discovery was made after deputies responded to a call regarding a dead body located approximately 1 mile east of I-17 near mile marker 254. Three females who were hiking in the area had initially reported seeing a body in a watering hole nearby. After confirming the subject’s death, law enforcement authorities arrived at the scene and discovered that the deceased was partially submerged in the water/mud and completely nude.
Due to the suspicious nature of the incident, the Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office immediately notified their Criminal detectives to further investigate. At the time, the man’s identity remained unknown. However, on July 12th, 2023, the hiker was finally identified as 40-year-old Ramnathan from Phoenix. The investigation concluded that Ramnathan’s cause of death was accidental drowning, as no other injuries were found on his body.
